2003 GRAND PRIZE WINNER..

SHARK RIVER SURF ANGLERS 3 rd Annual KIDS TROUT TOURNAMENT
Although rain, wind and cold temps were upon us from the opening gun it had little if any effect on the turnout or enthusiasm of the young ones. (Due to not being to hip on the laws re: posting of childrens names or pics on-line without parental consent I'll just give you the weights of some of the fish)
The overall winner was a 6lb 7oz Tiger Trout caught by a 15yo. This lucky angler received a G.Loomis rod(purchased by SRSA) with a Tica reel (reel donated by Stripers Online...Thank you very much Tim) A VERY LARGE trophy, a mount of the fish to be provided by Carl Osterlund of "All Game Taxidermy", a charter on Raritan Bay With Capt. Nick Neuberg of "Benchmark Sportfishing" for Himself, His Dad and Four friends as well as a net filled with goodies. Some other weigh-in that made it to our scale included a 4lb 5oz Brook trout caught by a 14yo girl, a 3lb 4oz rainbow by a 5yo boy, a 3lb 2oz rainbow by a by a 15yo boy, a 3lb 8oz rainbow by a 13yo boy, a 2lb 11 oz bow by a 8yo boy a 2lb 11oz rainbow by a 11yo girl. Altogether 25 trout were landed by the youngsters throughout the day from ages 3-15.weighing from 6oz to the 6lb 7oz brute. The largest trout to hit the scales was caught by an adult and it was a 7lb 10oz rainbow. Some other non trout but notable weigh-ins included a 13lb 4oz carp a 8lb carp and a few largemouth bass at 3lb 8oz and 2lb 4oz. In each of the four age categories (0-5)(6-9)(10-12)(13-15) each young angler finishing 1st 2nd and 3rd received a rod and reel combo with a tackle box and a beautiful net filled with fishing goodies.
Later in the day the rain turned to sunshine only to shine brighter from the smiles as every child who participated was given a net loaded with Berkely Power bait or Mister Twister Erupt, an assortment of Eagle Claw hooks,yo-zuri lures,Mepps spinners decals and patches,Yomamoto soft plastic baits, sinkers, bobbers(or dobbers if your a Hueth ) and a stringer.Bagels, Donuts, hot chocolate, coffee, soda,chips and hot dogs were provided for free throughout the day. It was like Christmas in April. It is only through the GENEROUS DONATIONS provided by local merchants and tackle shops as well as individuals and Surf Clubs along with the time and effort of "The Shark River Surf Anglers" that make this event a HUGE success every year. Special Thanks to New Jersey Angler Magazine and New Jersey Fishing Show.com as well as The Coast Star and the Asbury Park Press for making so many young anglers happy celebrities throughout the day.
Once again we would like to thank all those who contributed time, effort, merchandise and $$ for making this the most successful Kids Trout Tournament in NJ. And to you the parents and Children who braved the elements with the hopes of landing a monster trout on Opening Day THANK YOU...it was Our pleasure.
It is events like these and many other fun filled family oriented activites that make the SRSA the premier surf fishing club in the state.
